Celler Laurona, winemaker from Montsant
Celler Laurona: A Passion for Spanish Wines
Founding of Celler Laurona
Born out of the passion of two friends and key players in the world of spanish wines, Christopher Cannan and René Barbier, the famous winemaker who was able to garner Priorat its global recognition, Celler Laurona was founded in 1999 in the Tarragona region, under the Monsant appellation (D.O.).
The Art of Winemaking at Celler Laurona
With the idea of producing wines that best reflected the characteristics of the unique soil and regional traditions, Celler Laurona mainly works with Grenache and Carignan, local grape varieties from old vineyards. It is through a combination of the complexity of these ancient vines, a subtle mix of Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as a meticulous approach to winemaking and élevage that Laurona, the eponymous wine, has been able to distinguish itself by ranking on Wine Spectator’s list of the 100 finest wines in the world.
Grown on magnificent plots located at the foot of the imposing Monsant massif around Falset village, this wine is a pure expression of its terroir—complex and intense with a velvety and persistent finish.
